As pool season approaches, you may be wondering about your old pool. One of the reasons you bought this house several years ago was the pool. Despite loving your pool and its benefits, you feel something is missing. You certainly don’t want to tear it out and build a new one, so how about doing a pool renovation? If you are considering doing something new with your pool, consider the top 8 reasons you might need to renovate.
1) The existing pool surface is eroding. Quality pool resurfacing materials last a long time, but not forever. If you discover signs that the existing pool surface is eroding, then this is an important time to resurface your swimming pool. There are several indicators that the surface may need to be redone, and our experts at DPC can explain more to you about the quality of the surface poolside, but here are a few signs you should be aware of:
2) You suspect the pool is leaking. A leaking pool can be more than simply a nuisance and a water hog. A pool leak can cause expensive damage to the pool itself, your plumbing, and/or your septic system if you have one. The longer you wait to do so, the more expensive the repair may be. However, if you call us at DPC we could help troubleshoot the leak by scheduling a leak detection and follow-up by resurfacing your pool (if needed). Oftentimes, it can be difficult to tell when there is a leak in your pool. There are, however, a few signs that you can look out for. These signs include:
3) Pool stains only worsen over time. Over time, pools can become discolored for a variety of reasons, including normal wear and tear, chemicals, minerals in the water, and leaves and lawn debris. Stains make your pool appear unsanitary and can often mask important signs of corrosion or other problems, such as algae growth, leaks, or other unhealthy conditions. An experienced pool contractor can treat pool stains according to their cause and can even resurface the entire pool, so it looks brand new.
4) You want what you want. Your pool was built and designed by the former owners of your home. You’ve often thought about what you would have done if you were the one who built it. The good news is, that you can have what you want by working with DPC because we specialize in pool renovation and design.
5) A better fit. Your backyard might have changed over the years, from the landscape to the gardens. Your pool might stick out like a sore thumb it looks like something from the YMCA while you have constructed and created a park-like, natural setting around it.
6) A place to play. Yes, you might take it personally when friends and family don’t flock to your pool to hang out when you send an invite. But a pool that is old and shabby might look dirty, even when it’s not. Maybe your coping is chipped and cracked, or maybe you need a better entryway. A new deck or sun shelf with new steps would be a great addition to encourage fun.
7) Safety features. The rules and regulations might have changed since your pool was built and you might need an upgrade to keep it in line with the local codes. Or maybe the neighborhood has changed, and you want to keep your pool safe. From fencing to alarms, main drains, to lighting, be sure your pool is safe.
8) Save money. Your pool might be way out of date when it comes to energy-saving features. From the pump to the filtration system to the heater, there are many ways to update your pool that can actually save you money on your energy bills up to 90%. Plus, if you have an opportunity to “go green,” the pool is one place to start.
Make your pool a place where everybody wants to be, including you. You’ll love it even more than the day you moved in.
