As pool season approaches, you may be wondering about your old pool. One of the reasons you bought this house several years ago was the pool. Despite loving your pool and its benefits, you feel something is missing. You certainly don’t want to tear it out and build a new one, so how about doing a pool renovation? If you are considering doing something new with your pool, consider the top 8 reasons you might need to renovate.

 1) The existing pool surface is eroding. Quality pool resurfacing materials last a long time, but not forever. If you discover signs that the existing pool surface is eroding, then this is an important time to resurface your swimming pool. There are several indicators that the surface may need to be redone, and our experts at DPC can explain more to you about the quality of the surface poolside, but here are a few signs you should be aware of:

• White, chalky substance on the skin after rubbing pool walls.
• Cloudy water
• The surface is very coarse. 
• Visible cracks
• Starting to delaminate/bubble up.

2) You suspect the pool is leaking. A leaking pool can be more than simply a nuisance and a water hog. A pool leak can cause expensive damage to the pool itself, your plumbing, and/or your septic system if you have one. The longer you wait to do so, the more expensive the repair may be. There are, however, a few signs that you can look out for. These signs include:

• Loss of water that exceeds normal evaporation expectancies.
• Wet spots in the grass or around the pool area.
• Unbalanced pH levels, regardless of how hard you try to keep them balanced.

3) Pool stains only worsen over time. Over time, pools can become discolored for a variety of reasons, including normal wear and tear, chemicals, minerals in the water, and leaves and lawn debris. Stains make your pool appear unsanitary and can often mask important signs of corrosion or other problems, such as algae growth, leaks, or other unhealthy conditions. An experienced pool contractor can treat pool stains according to their cause and can even resurface the entire pool, so it looks brand new. 

4) You want what you want. Your pool was built and designed by the former owners of your home. You’ve often thought about what you would have done if you were the one who built it.
